| SANDLOCK Use on Wide Joints (over ½”) |
When filling wide joints such as natural stone pavements and the increasingly popular extra large pavers, sand stabilizer alone may not provide sufficient stabilization. Because of this, even when installing SandLOCK PREMIX or sand mixed with SandLOCK ADDITIVE, you may require an added material for such applications. Below are instructions that will ensure optimum stabilization.
Step 1 -
Fill the empty joints with crushed open-graded aggregate (1/8", 1/4" or 1/2" Clean, depending on joint size). Do NOT use dense-graded aggregate (base material). Spread the open-graded aggregate over the stone surface until all the joints are full. Sweep off excess aggregate.
Step 2 - Sweep SandLOCK PREMIX or Course Concrete Sand mixed with SandLOCK ADDITIVE into the joints. This will fill the remaining voids between the open-graded aggregate. Sweep off excess when all the joints are full.
Step 3 - Use a leaf blower to remove any remaining SandLOCK residue from the surface of the pavement. Be careful not to blow the joint material out.
Step 4 - Saturate the surface with water to activate.
