PART
III - EXECUTION
A. INSPECTION:
Inspection of paver surfaces for stains prior to application
of PAVER GUARD sealer shall be the responsibility of the application
contractor. Proper procedures for cleaning, removal of stains and
rinsing of pavement for removal of cleaning chemicals shall be verified
by the application contractor.
B. SURFACE PREPARATION:
Cleaning and removal of stains caused
by efflorescence, grease, oil, rust and hard water is an integral
part of the PAVE TECH Paving Stone Protection Treatment Program.
Inspection for these stains is a prerequisite to the application
of PAVERGUARD
sealer.
- Before any treatment begins, cracked or
broken pavers in the installation shall be replaced.
- Grass, shrubs or any decorative plantings
that have grown over the pavement edge shall be trimmed back prior
to cleaning or sealing,
- As with all cleaners containing acids,
a test for surface and color reaction with the pavers should be
made in an inconspicuous place.
- Before and after cleaning pavers, always
hose down with water any building materials, shrubs, grass and
plantings in close proximity to the pavement.
- Always read and follow manufacturer's
directions printed on container labels for use and application,
precautions and first aid.
C. APPLICATION OF PAVER PREP EFFLORESCENCE
CLEANER:
- PAVER PREP is shipped as a concentrate; add six
gallons of water to one gallon of concentrate
(five to one ratio if stains are severe).
- Mix thoroughly in plastic containers only, using
protective eye, skin and clothing cover.
- Starting at the lowest elevation of the pavement,
thoroughly prewet an area to be cleaned (600 to 1,000 sq. ft.).
- Apply PAVER PREP solution using a low pressure
sprayer, making sure to cover the entire surface.
- Let solution stand for approximately three (3)
minutes, then dilute thoroughly with water; when up to three thousand
(3,000) sq. ft. has been treated, rinse off the entire cleaned
area immediately. PAVER PREP is fast working, does not require
scrubbing and, unlike some acids, will not etch the paver surface
when used as directed.
- When rinsing cleaner off of pavement, also rinse
adjacent building materials, grass, shrubs etc. with water. Also,
watch for silt residue collecting in low spots of the pavement,
Unless silt is thoroughly washed off, a grayish cast will
appear after sealing.
- The use of a high pressure water spray (1,000-2,500
psi) is strongly recommended for final rinsing after cleaning.
D. APPLICATION OF PAVER DE-STAINER:
- PAVERDE-STAINER should be used
full strength as received in its container. Read entire label
before using.
- Prewet area or spots to be cleaned,
as well as any adjacent building materials, grass, shrubs, etc.,
with water.
- Apply PAVERDE-STAINER generously
to stain, pouring directly from container.
- Let solution work for one (1)
minute only, scrub with synthetic fiber brush until thoroughly
worked into stain.
- Rinse thoroughly with water.
Stubborn stains may require repeat cleaning; however, do not repeat
process more than three (3) times, as surface texture and color
may be affected. Fresh spills of automotive oils can be treated
on the spot with any regular detergent, such as Simple Green.
E. APPLICATION OF PAVERGUARD SEALER:
The pavement surface must be completely dry prior
to sealing. Shut off automatic sprinkler systems and check weather
conditions so as to obtain a minimum of 6 hours drying time.
- Read directions and entire label before applying.
- Be sure all cleaning solutions have been thoroughly
washed off and that the pavement is completely dry,
including the joint areas.
- Apply PAVERGUARD starting at the highest elevation
of the pavement and working side to side to the bottom of the
slope. We recommend a powered roller type of application, but
it can also be applied with either a low or high pressure airless
sprayer, although these methods can be hazardous.
- When sealing previously untreated pavers, apply
PAVERGUARD liberally, as absorption will be relatively high for
the initial coat.
- Two coats of sealer will be required for the first
application only; wait at least one hour before application
of the second coat.
